Early years
I grew up in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. I spent a lot of my time there hiking in and around Shenandoah National Park, where I developed a strong connection with mountain ranges. As an undergraduate I studied materials science and chemical engineering but soon after graduation developed an interest in the geological sciences. After working for three years in science and technology policy in Washington, DC I decided to return to graduate school for a M.S. in geology and now I'm pursuing my Ph.D. |
Interests
I attempt to engage in a very active lifestyle and many of my non-academic interests are a reflection of that. For example, I enjoy hiking, biking and running. However, my favorite activity is climbing of all sorts. My goal is to one day climb some of the world's most magnificent mountain peaks. Lastly, I like exploring new places, cooking, listening to jazz, nature photography, and reading and writing. |
